Your security, your responsibility.

Help us, help you.

Cyber criminals are always looking for new ways to catch you.

Here are some common scams and ways to avoid becoming a victim.

Impersonation Scams

Beware of impersonation scams that target both your personal information and your money. Fraudsters will pretend to be a representative of a legitimate organization to try to solicit your Banking information or your money through various channels such as email, text message or phone calls.

Below are a few examples of common impersonation scams:

  • Bank impersonation: someone contacts you claiming to be from your bank and says there is suspicious activity on your account. They may ask for your online banking password, PIN or one-time verification code.
  • Courier or delivery scams: a message claims to be from a delivery company saying a package can’t be delivered until you pay a small fee or confirm your personal details.
  • Family or “emergency” scams: you may receive a message from someone pretending to be a family member or friend urgently asking for money.

Always verify

You can take the following steps to protect yourself:

  • Protect your personal info: Never share personal or financial info, including your passwords, PINs or verification codes.
  • Pause and take a moment to verify unexpected requests before responding. Be cautious of urgent messages that pressure you to act immediately.
  • Don’t click or download anything from unknown senders, ads or websites.
  • Report it: Contact Scotiabank directly on 627-2684 if something seems suspicious.
