Generation GAP and PrideTT
Fostering a holistic LGBT+ youth development programme.
Supporting LGBT+ youth mentorship in T&T
Generation GAP has been a part of PrideTT's annual Pride month activities since 2018.
What began as a one-day talk forum for a meeting of minds between LGBT+ elders and youth on issues facing the community in a national context, has now shifted to focus on expanding to a holistic youth programme.
Through PrideTT's partnership with Scotiabank, the Generation GAP's expanded programme offers structured mentorship to 30 participants between the ages of 17 and 25. It takes on a modular format, focusing on character and professional development over a 10 month period (Aug – May).
Topics covered include:
- Living your truth and finding empowerment in your identity
- Character Development – Self Confidence/Self Awareness
- Problem Solving/Time Management/Decision Making
- Self-care and Mental Health Counselling
- Professional Development – Etiquette/Work Culture/Interview Prep
- Financial Literacy and Management
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Sustainable Community Engagement
Mentors provide interactive group exercises and self-paced home activities and follow on the progress of mentees.
Added for the first time in 2021 is full certification for participation in the programme. Participants are expected to develop a sustainable community intervention project which will then be added to PrideTT’s programming in the following year.
We're excited to host the first Generation GAP intern!
Over the next 3 months (June-September 2022) our intern joins the Marketing and Communications team and will learn key skills to add to her resume as she works toward gaining valuable experience to kick start her career.
