Focused on dismantling the bias faced by women.
We're committed to being active allies to women employees, customers, and communities year-round.
We ally on for women.
Creating change takes commitment. As allies, we're continuing to listen, learn and understand bias that exists for women. Scotiabank is focused on removing barriers to economic advancement and advocating for women every day of the year.
Change starts from within.
We're committed to supporting women employees.
Setting a new standard for Parental Leave
Scotiabank is setting a new standard for parental leave, which includes an increase from 14 to 16 fully paid weeks for women who have given birth and a leap from 3 days to 4 fully paid weeks for a male employee with a new child. In addition, we've recently added leave for parents who choose to adopt and medical coverage for gestational surrogacy.
Celebrating our diversity and fostering inclusion
We believe in creating an environment where everyone can thrive. We actively support Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) - focused on gender equality, female empowerment and the advancement of women at all levels in the organization. While these are our main goals, our ERGs also support international days dedicated to women and girls throughout the year.
Our diversity commitments
We're committed to building an inclusive workforce by increasing the representation of women in senior leadership roles. At present, senior management roles are dominated by women at 53% and at the Unit Director level women occupy 46% of these positions. We’re also pleased that 60% of our Board of Directors are women.
Representing equality in Marketing
We’re committed to marketing practices that are free of bias and support minority-owned suppliers. As a member of SeeHer, we advocate for and participate in the accurate portrayal of women and girls in marketing.
Community focus
For 23 years, the Scotiabank Women against Breast Cancer Programme has championed free breast cancer education and screening. To date, we have helped empower 20,000 women to take charge of their health and lead better lives through access to free screening services. Additionally, through our various youth development and mentorship programmes, young women and girls benefit from academic scholarships, financial planning , literacy workshops, and leadership and skills building initiatives. We've also supported victims of domestic violence and gender based violence with counselling services and other programmes, helping them to rise above their situations and reach their full potential.
How we're driving equality for every future
Scotiabank continues to work together with our communities to remove barriers, increase opportunities, and improve representation for women.
